Working together to reduce the ecological footprint of outdoor and adventure tourism in Quebec

Nature is Quebec's greatest wealth.

It is the raw material that allows our businesses to offer incredible experiences to our visitors.

In the context of climate emergency and major environmental issues, our adventure travel and ecotourism businesses choose to protect the environment by joining 1% for the Planet and committing to donate 1% of their sales to the 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund.

For a responsible outdoor experience in Quebec, choose a business that contributes to the 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund.

We invest in the protection of nature in Quebec

The 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund supports structuring projects conducted in Quebec with the aim of :

  • protecting terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems;
  • protecting animal species;
  • fighting against climate change.

Each year, our businesses’ contributions go to Quebec non-profit organizations that stand out for their leadership and their innovative projects.

Giving to the 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund allows our businesses to take concrete action to reduce their ecological footprint. And by choosing these businesses, you contribute to responsible tourism!

A portion of the funds is also invested directly in Quebec’s adventure travel and ecotourism businesses to support the implementation of sustainable and responsible practices.

Since it was launched in 2020, the 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund has given nearly $150,000 to Quebec non-profit organizations!

Coop FA: Carbone Scol'ERE Program

$105,000 for the planet in 2022

In only two years, the amount that we give back to our planet has more than doubled. In 2022, the 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund is giving $105,000 to Quebec non-profit organizations :

$87,400 for protecting ecosystems and animal species and for fighting against climate change

  • $16,600 go to Coop FA’s Carbone Scol'ERE Program, where kids are invited to take up challenges with their families so that they can change some of their habits in order to avoid GHG emissions.
  • $16,600 go to Fondation Rivières for two citizen engagement projects : a) Actions towards the preservation of Petite-Nation and Kipawa rivers, among others; b) The Grand Splash Week event, which is held from July 1st to 10 with the aim of democratizing access to water.
  • $16,600 go to Pur Nat for the development of a unique expertise in cleaning lakes and rivers with tools that will aid waste quantification and localization. Both Saint-Charles and Baronnie-Picardie rivers will be cleaned as part of this project.
  • $18,450 go to Planetair to support emission reduction projects with the purchase of the equivalent of 800 tons of GHG’s in Gold Standard carbon credits.

    This year, we are funding emission reduction projects in a way to match the emissions of our donor businesses. Since our GHG inventory doesn’t yet take into account the emissions of customers who travel to businesses (a significant source of GHG's), it has been decided to double the amount of carbon credits purchased. The choice of the Gold Standard certification is in line with our desire to prioritize the reduction of GHG emissions and to support North-South solidarity in the logic of climate justice.

    This is the first step into a structured approach to align Quebec’s adventure tourism and ecotourism sector towards collective carbon neutrality in 2025. We are aware that climate action depends above all on reducing our members' GHG emissions and we are committed to measuring our emissions and setting reduction targets for our sector by April 2023.

$17,500 to support adventure travel and ecotourism businesses in implementing sustainable practices

  • As part of its sustainable development plan, which includes 13 goals for 2025, Aventure Écotourisme Québec will calculate the total GHG emissions of its industry. In partnership with Planetair, the Fund is giving over $8,000 to support this pilot project.
  • In the last year, the Fund has helped 55 businesses commit to a sustainable development approach with Les Pages vertes, which rates businesses online and provides coaching for the implementation of an action plan. Over $9,000 will help 50 more businesses towards the same goal.

Our businesses are committed to saving the planet

These businesses are committed to donating 1% of their sales to the 1% for the Planet Outdoor Fund, whether they are profitable or not.

By choosing these eco-responsible leaders, you contribute to innovative projects that have a positive impact on Quebec's natural environments and the communities you visit.
